Hawthorn Spartans back Sports Without Borders

Hawthorn Spartans back Sports Without Borders

Sports Without Borders would like to thank the Hawthorn Spartans for their recent generous donation.

The Spartans, a gang of football mad Greeks, draw their inspiration from the '300' movie, Greek history and their own Hellenic backgrounds. The Spartans have drawn the Greek community together weekly since they began last year and in a successful debut, made the Grand Final in VAFA Club 18 football. Not bad for a bunch of guys who had never really played football before.

Their second annual ball in May raised funds for the club, and also for the sporting community generally, through their contribution to Sports Without Borders. This will go directly into Sports Scholarships for young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds, to develop and achieve their dreams.

The Hawthorn Spartans have not lost a game this season yet, and we wish them all the best for 2012.
